R.I.M.S. handles all kinds of inventories seamlessly. This includes Railcar, Boxcar, Warehouse, Tank/Silo and soon to include Container inventory.
For all types of inventory the system will track the following information :
- Dry, Liquid or Gas commodities.
- Weight, and Gallons for liquid, and Units (for warehouse and boxcar inventory).
- Inventory can be entered as “In Transit” with no arrival or available date.
- Arrival / Inbound date – this is when storage/demurrage charges start.
- Available Date – the inventory can now be placed on work orders.
- Empty – the inventory is empty but still billing for storage/demurrage.
- Released – the railcar has been removed from the yard, billing terminates on this date.
- Five Inventory levels for each weight, gallons and units (when applicable)
- Arrival – starting inventory
- Available weight/gallons/units – Starting inventory level plus/minus posted work orders plus/minus allocated work orders with a requested load date and time before the current date & time (or the current work order’s requested load date and time).
- Actual weight/gallons/units – Starting inventory level plus/minus posted work orders.
- Ending weight/gallons/units – Starting inventory level plus/minus all work orders.
- Balance to Full – If the inventory is “Release Full” and there are weight and/or volume capacity settings the system will calculate the amount left before the container is FULL. This is critical for ‘release full’ transloading and indicates how much more the railcar or tank can receive until it is full. RIMS will not allow overfilling a container giving a warning whenever it is attempted.
Note in the above formulas receiving orders are added whereas outbound orders are subtracted.
- Storage billing can:
- Be to a different payer
- On any number of user defined billing plans. (See Storage/Demurrage Rates Entry).

- An inventory item cross-reference of every work order this inventory item is used on. Includes inbound, outbound, samples, adjustments, etc.
- An on-screen complete detailed breakdown of storage billing to date.
- A cross-reference of every scanned document related to this inventory item.
- Audit Trail History – specific changes to the inventory “properties” are logged as to what, who and when.
